NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA – APS Environmental announces the implementation of advanced dewatering and nutrient recovery technology that transforms septic waste into reusable resources for Northern California agriculture and land restoration projects.

The North Highlands-based septic and environmental services company has invested in centrifugal separation systems, UV treatment facilities, and thermal processing equipment to extract clean water and nutrient-rich biosolids from collected waste materials.

“We stopped seeing ourselves as waste managers and started seeing ourselves as resource stewards,” said Bryan Hage, CEO of APS Environmental, who has led the company for over 20 years. “Instead of just removing and transporting waste, we’re extracting value through cleaner water, reusable organic solids, and inputs for composting and land restoration.”

From Disposal to Recovery

The multi-stage process begins with centrifugal separation that extracts water from collected solids. Recovered water undergoes fine filtration and UV treatment, making it suitable for non-potable applications including dust control and landscape irrigation.

The separated biosolids are thermally treated and composted to eliminate pathogens while stabilizing nutrients like nitrogen and phosphorus. Laboratory testing validates safety and nutrient consistency for each batch before distribution to agricultural partners.

APS Environmental currently operates pilot programs with local farms and restoration projects throughout Northern California. Early results show improved soil texture and water retention in areas with depleted topsoil, leading to purchase agreement negotiations for expanded distribution.

Building Environmental Partnerships

The company has established collaborative relationships with local environmental organizations that provide ecological expertise and identify restoration sites. These partnerships extend beyond endorsements to hands-on involvement in site selection, best practices development, and project monitoring.

“Local environmental groups help us identify restoration sites, advise on ecological best practices, and connect us with municipal and state projects,” Hage explained. “We bring the equipment and technical knowledge while they provide ecological expertise and community connections.”

The initiative addresses rising disposal costs, tightening environmental regulations, and limited landfill capacity facing the septic services industry. By recovering resources rather than disposing of waste, APS Environmental positions itself ahead of evolving environmental policy requirements.

Industry Response

The resource recovery model has attracted attention from competitors and industry peers across California and nationally. While some companies express curiosity about the technology and implementation, others remain committed to traditional pump-haul-dispose operations.

Field technicians at APS Environmental report a shift in perspective from waste removal to resource recovery operations. The company emphasizes transparency with agricultural partners, providing detailed process explanations and comprehensive testing data to address safety concerns.

The program aligns with APS Environmental’s long-term goal to become Northern California’s most trusted name in septic and environmental services through innovation, sustainability, and environmental responsibility.
